The knowledge and practical experience of a skilled practitioner supplement formal education and training.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Career Development\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Management and Leadership Development \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n People that receive mentoring also benefit from increased adaptability to change\, professionalindependence\, and accountability as self-directed learners.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Promote the growth of leadership skills. Instead of schooling and training\, these competencies are frequently more readily acquired through application and supervised practice.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Benefits of mentoring\nto the mentee\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Of course\, mentees gain a lot from being mentored but not only in terms of career development as people tend to assume.\nGood mentor matching can lead to:\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Increased self-confidence\n \n Increased self-awareness\n \n Improved communication skills\n \n Better personal network within the business\n \n Exposure to new and different perspectives\n \n Increased capacity to self-reflect\n \n Improved goal-setting skills\n \n Increased job satisfaction\n \n Being supported by someone\n \n Learning to ask good questions\n \n Being advocated for\n \n Learning from other’s experiences\n \n Increased chance of promotion\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Remember: as a mentee you will also benefit from finding support and guidance outside of your line management.Widening networks is an important way to grow confidence and knowledge.Through greater access to leaders within your business\, mentoring provides you with opportunities to expand personally and professionally that you might not have in your day to day role. This is why it is so powerful for career progression! \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Benefits of mentoring to the mentor\n \n \n \n \n \n There are a rangeof personal development benefits that mentors gain from the experience. These includes:\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n A reason for becoming a mentor\nis often the feeling of ‘giving back’.\nBut remember\, this isn’t the only positive outcome!\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Increased self-confidence\n \n Increased self-awareness\n \n Leadership skill development\n \n Strong communication skills\n \n Mastering the art of delivering feedback\n \n Asking better questions\n \n Becoming a good listener\n \n Exposure to new and different perspectives\n \n Reduced levels of anxiety\n \n Growing a personal network\n \n Increased chance of promotion\n \n Increased job satisfaction\n \n Supporting another person\n \n Paying it forward\n \n Learning from someone else\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Another key benefit of mentoring for mentors is the effect on leadership that mentoring has. Acting as a mentor means practicing the core skills needed to be a successful manager or team leader and prepares you for senior leadership.
